World of Warcraft (WoW) is one shining example of a MMORPG that stood the test of time. WoW started as a Real Time Strategy (RTS) game for the PC which was released in 1994. It is the fourth game released set in the Warcraft universe by Blizzard Entertainment. It currently has 11.5 subscribers around the world and is currently the most subscribed MMORPG to date.

When you start out and create a new character, you can definitely select any race and gender and still hold your own against the monsters and foes that you face in the game. Aside from this, the game has a lot of variety as you would start out differently depending on the race that you choose. But it gives you the same amount of thrill and scale that’s undescribable unless you experience each race and that could take time.

WoW has several innovations, one of the most simple innovation is respawning When you die. Unlike many MMORPGs today, when you die, you don’t lose any experience points or any items. All you have to do is find your way out of the graveyard and go back to your corpse. Another feature that encourages players to continue playing and that could attract players who can’t commit in spending hours of play is the Rest system. This allows for leveling up easier the next time you log on after you stopped playing or if you are gone for a while.

All in all WoW has lived up to the hype. This game is MMORPG’s breakthrough hit, it is what Mario is to the platforming genre. There are very few that follows the footsteps of WoW but it barely even scratch what this juggernaut has to offer.
